Here are some of the fascinating stories
behind the equipment we have in stock
We hope this section offers a useful source of information
- An introduction to Angenieux lenses
by Paul Gates, Ducey, France Many of the great French optical
manufacturing houses such as Darlot, Hermagis, Boyer and Krauss had
their roots in the nineteenth century, or even earlier. Angenieux was
an exception.
- SYBIL: an eccentrically British camera
by Harry Kitchen In 1980 I met a Ôone-armed very old gentlemanÕ,
(as he candidly described himself), who had a camera to sell. Over lunch
he told me that the Kaiser had deprived him of the other arm in the
Great War, that during 1926 he had bought the camera from James Sinclair,
and that the shutter did not work.
- The Rare Retinas
by Max Dyble Retina collectors are aware of the vast number or
Retina & Retina Reflex variants manufactured during the production span
from 1934 to 1964. But which are the really rare models, and why are
they rare?
- The Foca Universal RC
by Paula Gates, France. The coupled rangefinder interchangeable
lens Foca cameras of French design
- Mixed nuts by Dr
Burton Rubin, New York. In any bowl of mixed nuts there are usualy
masses of peanuts and lesser amounts of the more expensive, scarcer
varieties.
- Irregular Regulas
by Helen Smith. A lot of affordable fun can be had from hunting
down the confusing spread of Regula models still surviving out there,
and tryingbto make sense of them.
- The Names the Same
by Dr Burton Rubin, New York. Sometimes a camera has appeal for
the strangest of reasons
